Jet Setting Milestones and Chaos

February came and went, and boy, was it chaotic!! We started the month planning a birthday party for our son’s first birthday. We smoked some pulled pork and planned a menu for his birthday party. then came the rest of the chaos.

Daycare told us a stomach bug was going through the room. We were hesitant, but made it through the week. So we thought. Turning into our neighborhood on the way home from daycare, the stomach bug hit. We had to clean the carseat, everything. Such a mess! Talk to any CPST and they will tell you, read your car seat’s manual before cleaning. I highly recommend this. I did also put a short story on my highlight reel, if you need to reference.

Stomach bug hit Mom and Dad at the end of the weekend. Boy, was it rough! We both took Monday as a sick day from work, and kept everyone home from daycare. Tuesday we spent another day home, but did our best to work from home. By Wednesday we were on the mend, but had so much cleaning of the house to get done before our big birthday celebration the following weekend! Luckily with some faith we got through it and everything was super clean and ready to go by the weekend.

For the big birthday party we had went so well. I made the birthday cake and icing from scratch. We had the pulled pork, mac & cheese and cole slaw. It all turned out deliciously. As first birthdays go, I think our little man made out like a bandit. We asked for things he could do this summer and we were not disappointed by the gifts that were received. We are so lucky to have so much family that love our little family so much.

Towards the end of the month, I had a big work trip, 22,000 miles from home. Luckily, I have an amazing husband and support system that allowed me to make the quick 62 hour trip. I posted a few tips and tricks for traveling a long distance in a short amount of time on instagram, and I’ll probably dedicate a blog post to it as well, so stay tuned! Speaking of support system, my sister just happened to be on stay-cation the week I was gone so I had her available as a back up in case my husband needed help. It definitely helped to put my mind at ease knowing that there would be someone actively available to help if something happened at home. I’m not sure if its already a saying or not, but my philosophy in life definitely goes something like this: Prepare for everything and everything will go flawlessly. Don’t prepare and everything will go wrong. And this has kept me pretty well in check for motherhood.
